Numerous Anti-Semitic Attacks in New York City

Democratic Jewish Lawmakers along with a New York City Councilman are pleading for Governor Cuomo to deploy the state’s National Guard in order to combat a wave of anti-Semitic hate crimes sweeping across the city. Illustrating just how mismanaged and out of sync both Cuomo and de Blasio are in effectively dealing with hate crime in the city — in that even Democrats now acknowledge the failed leadership of these two.

State lawmakers went on the record Monday saying that action is needed in combating the daily anti-Semitic hate crimes gripping the city.

Several leaders within the Jewish community also petitioned both Cuomo and de Blasio.

“During the past several days, in particular, several identifiably Orthodox Jews in and around areas we represent have been targeted with a rash of violence unseen in modern history,” the letter states. “Orthodox Jews are being regularly assaulted, menaced, stabbed and murdered in increasing number.”

Adding, “We are writing to ask that you declare a state of emergency and that you deploy the New York State Police and the New York National Guard to visibly patrol and protect Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods throughout our state.”

“Simply stated, it is no longer safe to be identifiably Orthodox in the State of New York. We cannot shop, walk down a street, send our children to school, or even worship in peace.”

The unprecedented move (if enacted), within contemporary time, would harking back to the civil rights movements of the ’60s, when National Guard troops were called up in several states to maintain law and order, as America struggled with the scourge of racism.

The issue reached critical-mass Saturday night when 5-people celebrating the end of Hanukkah at a Rabbi’s home in Monsey, New York, were brutally attacked when drifter Thomas Grafton suddenly forced his way into the home and began stabbing the individuals gathered.

There were over 100 people gathered at Rabbi Chaim Rottenberg’s home for the Hanukkah celebration, thus far all survived, with one still in critical condition, with wounds “to the head.”

The likelihood that Cuomo would actually deploy the National Guard is almost zero, in that it would signal that he’s lost control of the issue, which for a politician like Cuomo would be a political disaster, especially considering that within just a day, the governors signature legislation dubbed the “Bail Reform” initiative that opens the floodgates for petty thugs and Class E felons, along with an assortment of low-life’s to simply walk out of jails and back unto the streets of the Big Apple” engaging in all kinds of willful infractions, including attacking Jews at will.

In the wake of Saturday’s knife attack, two Democratic lawmakers sent out tweets to Governor Cuomo, pleading with him to send out the National Guard

“We’re calling for a state of emergency in New York. We need help from the State Police & the National Guard so that we can protect our constituents.”

“Our communities are shaken. We have watched our neighbors beaten, stabbed, & gunned down. We don’t feel safe in our own homes.”

While it’s unlikely that the duo running New York State, along with New York City will do anything meaningful to eliminate the threat, there’s one volunteer organization that began patrolling the inner neighborhoods of New York City back in 1979 founded by radio personality Curtis Sliwa.

The red-capped crusader along with his army of unarmed volunteers has begun patrolling the streets of the Crown Heights neighborhood, expanding his patrols to Williamsburg and Borough Park.

“These attacks are taking place, and the cops have not been proactive at all,” Sliwa said Saturday. “It comes from City Hall and the mayor. He’s been just apathetic.”
