Whenever you take a flight, having some snacks with you will seem like a necessity. While on road trips you have the option of truly bringing anything you want, with flights that are not always the case. If you are trying to figure out which homemade foods you can bring with you on the plane then this guide may be the guide for you.
Essentially, the first thing you want to avoid is any type of watery or liquid food. Soups, gravy, and even stews are unlikely to pass through airport security.
However, anything that is solid might be a lot easier to pass. Solid foods will usually go through the security checkpoint without any problems. This makes these types of food much more likely to survive the journey through the airport.
Baked goods are also an option if you want to bring something sweet or savory with you. Everything from brownies, to cakes, cookies, and pies can easily pass-through security.
Another thing to avoid is any form of spreadable food. Again, these along with liquids are unlikely to make good travel food as they will be confiscated at the security checkpoint.
In terms of canned goods, anything that actually has water or brine is unlikely to go through security. Therefore, you should avoid bringing it with you.
Fruit is a good choice, and is usually allowed through. But be careful if you are on an international flight because fruit can be an agricultural violation at your destination. Eat it or dump it before you go through customs.
I would like to see all ODOROUS foods banned from being carried on to flights. We passengers are in very tight quarters and being forced to endure strong food odors without ventilation is beyond unpleasant. Bad breath from foods such as sushi also permeate the air by the consumer simply breathing. Talking makes it more offensive. It is horrible.
