Iowa Senator Joni Ernst warned Sunday during an interview with Bloomberg News, that if the unthinkable should ever happen, and sleepy Joe Biden won the White House. Don’t be surprised that the day after his inauguration, Republicans (provided they have the House), would begin immediately articles of impeachment regarding Biden’s dealings as vice president with Ukraine.
Ernst acknowledged that the door to impeachment has opened wide, after House Democrats lowered the bar making even executive privilege an article for impeachment stating “I think this door of impeachable whatever has been opened.”
Adding, “Joe Biden should be very careful what he’s asking for because, you know, we can have a situation where if he should ever be President Biden, that immediately people right the day after he would be elected would be saying, ‘Well, we’re going to impeach him.”
Under former President Obama, Biden had been the designated point-man for the administration in Ukraine, in routing-out corruption. Moreover Biden’s much-publicized video of him bragging of having Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin fired and removed from an on going investigation of corruption involving Energy Company Burisma Holdings in which Biden’s son Hunter was a board member, earning approximately $50 to $80,000 a month.
Ernst, a first-term congresswoman, told reporters on Monday that the Senate’s impeachment trial of President Donald Trump could hurt Biden in the Feb. 3rd Iowa caucus.
“I’m really interested to see how this discussion today informs and influences the Iowa caucus voters, those Democratic caucus-goers,” she said. “Will they be supporting Vice President Biden at this point? Not certain at that.”
Biden brought up Ernst’s comments during every stump speech he’s made this week, no doubt hoping to solidify his Democratic base stating that Ernst “spilled the beans” about Republicans’ real intention in raising the Burisma issue to damage his candidacy.
“You can ruin Donald Trump’s night by caucusing with me and ruin Joni Ernst’s night as well,” he has said.
Kate Bedingfield, Biden communications director also sounded off regarding Ernst’s comments, encouraging Iowans to caucus for Biden.
“Iowans have the chance tomorrow to say the words that Donald Trump and Joni Ernst fear most: I’m here to caucus for Joe Biden,” she said.
However the 49-year old first term Republican makes a compelling case for impeaching the 77-year old VP, if he should ever occupy the Oval Office, stating “for being assigned to take on Ukrainian corruption yet turning a blind eye to Burisma because his son was on the board making over a million dollars a year.”
The “smoking-gun” 2018 video showing the elder Biden actually boasting during a conference that he personally threatened to hold up over $1 billion dollars in U.S loan guarantees if Ukraine officials did not immediately terminate Shokin.
Shokin was removed in 2016 from his position amid international pressure and has since claimed he was ousted because he was investigating the gas company Hunter Biden worked for and that the elder Biden wanted to protect his son.
In the video Biden appearing at a Council on Foreign Relations event boasts, “I said, you’re not getting the billion, I’m going to be leaving here in, I think it was about six hours. I looked at them and said: ‘I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money.’ Well, son of a bitch, (laughter) He got fired. And they put in place someone who was solid at the time.”
