Electric Cars Emit More CO2 Than Gas Motors

This just in from Germany: electric vehicles tested higher in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions than their diesel counterparts.

Electric vehicles depend on robust batteries to operate. The charging capacity is comparable to the size of a gasoline engine. More (bigger) is better since you can travel further between chargings (fuelings).

The study, released at the Ifo Institute in Munich on April 17, 2019, was conducted by German scientists, led by Christoph Buchal of the University of Cologne. These big brains factored in all the coal that had to be mined, processed, and delivered to generate the electricity needed to manufacture batteries when calculating the real amount of CO2 required to roll out an electric vehicle.

Energy expert Hans-Dieter Karl and highly regarded economist Professor Hans-Werner Sinn co-authored the study.

The researchers compared the total production energy expense needed to build an electric vehicle to that of a diesel one. The result might surprise you: electric vehicles account for 11-28% more CO2 emissions than diesel vehicles.

Here’s why:

Mining and processing the components used to construct electric vehicles’ batteries – lithium, cobalt, and manganese – is very expensive. The Germans estimated that a battery from a Tesla Model 3 would require between 11 and 15 tons of CO2 emissions to produce.

The German study team said stressed the importance of including the total CO2 emission sources – notably, from making the batteries which power the engine – associated with producing the “energy-saving” electric vehicles on the market today and envisioned for tomorrow:

“When all these factors are considered, each Tesla emits 156 to 180 grams of CO2 per kilometre, which is more than a comparable diesel vehicle produced by the German company Mercedes, for example.”

The Tesla Model 3 “performs particularly poorly,” according to the researchers.

“The Ifo Institute compared the Mercedes C 220 diesel cars and the new Tesla Model 3 in terms of diesel and electricity consumption and used the German electricity mix from 2018 as the basis for calculation,” reported NoTricksZone.

European Union (EU) officials crow that electric vehicles emit zero emissions, making people think that producing electric vehicles involves absolutely no carbon emissions (and therefore, have little environmental impact) as they force them onto each member nation, guided by the United Nations’ unsavory Agenda 2030.

This study contradicts that official position and added that “the EU target of 59 grams of CO2 per km [kilometer] by 2030 corresponds to a ‘technically unrealistic’ consumption of 2.2 litres of diesel or 2.6 litres of gas per 100 kms.”

The EU’s underestimation of CO2 emissions linked to manufacturing electric vehicles, used to justify governmental pressure put upon vehicle makers to “go electric,” coupled with unachievable engineering standards for diesel vehicle CO2 emissions, has had the unfortunate consequence of excluding another technology the German researchers said is quite promising: methane. (Think cow farts.)

It turns out that methane engines have CO2 emissions are one-third less than those of diesel engines.

Observers note the “continued vilification of Carbon Dioxide” which happens to be the basis for life on Earth. The United Nations’ Paris Climate Accord calls for sweeping and drastic reductions in carbon emissions worldwide in less than 20 years.

Even if this feat could be achieved – which critics claim is an impossible goal, practically-speaking – the scientific effect is almost certain to be global cooling as plant life dies off from too little CO2 for photosynthesis and the atmosphere clouds over, blocking natural sunlight.

If the Earth is, in fact, entering a Mini Ice Age, then the UN’s proposals to zero-out carbon emissions and even dim the sun go beyond the preposterous into the life-threatening.

When will the madness end?

Freedom lovers who oppose the New World Order can rejoice that the electric vehicle ploy is backfiring on the UN and other global warmists.
