The parents of a victim of one of Houston’s most brutal serial killers say the man who savagely killed their son deserves to rot behind bars and should be denied “compassionate release” no matter why that is being considered.
During a brutal murder spree in the 1970s, Elmer Wayne Henley killed 13-year-old Stanton Dreymala and five other young boys. Dreymala was his last victim; his parents are the last surviving parents of the teenage boys sexually tortured and violently slain in the mass murders.
They want Henley to die behind bars, but he’s now being considered for compassionate release.
“It was the largest serial killing in the country’s history up until John Wayne Gacy appeared,” said Andy Kahan with Crime Stoppers.
From 1970 through 1973, Henley and David Brooks lured 28 teenage boys to a Pasadena home belonging to Dean Corll, also known as The Candy Man.
“Henley himself said he is directly responsible for at least six deaths, but he’s indirectly responsible for over 25 because he knowingly took boys. He took people he knew, and he got them over to The Candy Man’s house knowing full well they would never walk out those doors again,” Kahan said.
What happened to the 28 boys shocked the world.
“It was one of the most horrific deaths you couldn’t imagine in your worst nightmare,” said Kahan. “They were sexually tortured; they were strapped to boards; they suffered tremendously.”
Each victim would be tied to a wooden “torture board,” whereupon he would be brutally raped. Afterward, some victims were strangled to death, and others were fatally shot. Every boy brought back to Corll was murdered — with Brooks and Henley actively participating in these crimes.
Parole officials can’t be specific about Henley’s current state. But according to the guidelines of compassionate release, he’s terminally ill or requires long-term care.
The parents of Dreymala have asked Kahan to fight Henley’s release from prison.
“I’ve been with this family now for more than 30 years,” he said. “There’s not a day that goes by where they don’t think of their 13-year-old son who was just simply riding his bike in the neighborhood collecting soda bottles so he could turn them in for money to take a girl out to the movie.”
Elmer Wayne Henley is serving six life sentences.
“The bottom line is Henley hasn’t even served 2 years for every young boy that he has credited and is responsible for killing,” said Kahan.
Kahn says that if you wish to protest the release of Henly, you must immediately submit your protest in writing by email to victim.svc@tdcj.texas.gov or by fax to 512-452-0825, or by mail – TDCJ Victim Services Division, Attention: Analyst, 8712 Shoal Creek Blvd, Suite 265, Austin, TX 78757-6899. You should include Henley’s details:
Name: ELMER WAYNE HENLEY JR.

He should have received the death penalty!
He should have been tortured and killed as well.
I agree !
The death penalty would have been appropriate . Now he should live out his life in jail to make some others aware that any such actions as he and others committed are diabolic and life imprisonment may hopefully cause him to realize his actions and to ask God for forgiveness and the boys families also to forgive him.
I sent an email to victim.svc@tdcj.texas.gov, requesting that this creature NEVER be allowed compassionate release from prison. He had no compassion for his young victims, and should NOT be shown compassion while incarcerated. I hope all who read this plea from young Stanton Dreymala’s family do the same.
I think the state only wants him out because he is costing them too much money. Too bad for the state, should have been put to death!
I totally agree!!!
Elmer Henley needs to fulfill his sentence or remain imprisoned until he dies! He showed no mercy to his victims he deserves no mercy. Do not let him off the hook. Other killers must be assured there are consequences for their actions!
SICK or NO SICK, This Damaged Human needs to Die behind Bars! Those trusting Young Boys didn’t have a choice! FREEDOM is for Humans that are compassionate, & can live among Society w/out doing harm to others! If you don’t fit that category, then the view for YOU is Behind Bars! You’ll get taken better care of there, than most people that are homeless! NO FREEDOM for YOU!!!
Throw away the key!!!
Take away all of his meds and let him die a horrible death so that he will know what his victims went through.
No, no. Compassionate release? What kind of compassion he gave to those 28 boys he killed? What is wrong with our legal system that shows “compassion” for criminals while disregarding the victims? This man should have received the death penalty then, and now, too.
He should rot in hell. He should suffer more than those poor children did
This OLD “brutal killer” of 28 YOUNG boys deserves to die a tortured death, just as his victims did. Why should he be spared death when he exacted death upon his innocent victims. Let him suffer just as his victims did — where he belongs — and DON’T release him for any “compassionate” or medical reasons, especially since he showed NO COMPASSION for his victims, by either torturing them himself and/or taking him to The Candy Man knowing they would never go home again. DO THE RIGHT THING AND LET HIM DIE IN PRISON WHERE HE DEFINITELY BELONGS!
YEAH HES SICK ALRIGHT LET HIM STAY RIGHT WHERE HE BELONGS NO ONE SHOULD FEEL SORRY FOR HIM HE DEFINATLY DOES NOT NEED TO BE ON THE STREETS HE IS DISGUSTING TRASH
After he is castrated, very small glass capillary should be pushed in his penis and then broken. This should only be the beginning of his pain.
mad dogs should be locked away and put to work or euthanized. not fed, housed then released.
Some problems cannot be solved by incarceration, Public hangings need to be reestablished. You need to know there are consequences.
