If you have trouble sleeping no matter what you might have tried before, then you might find that what is the key to a better night’s sleep for you, is in the foods that you choose to consume. Certain foods can often disrupt your sleep patterns and make it harder for you to sleep. Knowing which ones these are can make it much easier for you to avoid them.

1. Foods and Beverages high in sugar

Foods high in sugar are often known to be bad for one’s health, but did you know that they might also be the reason you have trouble sleeping? This is because the increased insulin response caused by these foods might lead to your blood sugar decreasing while you sleep. This will be followed by an increase in cortisol that is going to wake you up.

2. Vary savory foods

Foods high in salt might also lead to you not sleeping as well because of how thirsty they make you. As a response to that thirst, you are more likely to drink more water which can then cause you to get up several times throughout the evening.

3. Caffeine

Naturally, caffeine is known to be a stimulant. Since it can wake you up in the mornings it can also keep you awake in the evening. This is why it is advised that you don’t drink caffeine past 3 pm if you have trouble sleeping.

4. High-Fat Foods

Finally, high-fat foods can cause you to have indigestion, or upset your stomach. This can also impact how you sleep as your body won’t be fully able to relax as it will try to digest the food you consumed.
