An American Airlines flight recently reported a near-miss with a UFO!

2020 was a banner year for UFO sightings, many from highly reliable sources like law enforcement officers and airline pilots. 2021 is lining up to be much more of the same, as an American Airlines pilot recently reported a “close encounter” with a UFO.

On Sunday, Feb. 21, a radio interceptor picked up an unusual transmission from flight American Airlines flight from Cincinnati to Phoenix. The pilots said they had been overtaken by a speeding craft at 36,000ft over a remote corner of New Mexico.

In the recording of the transmission, releases by the FBI, one of the pilots asks the air traffic controller in Albuquerque, “Do you have any targets up here? We just had something go right over the top of us.”

The bizarre transmission continues, “I hate to say this, but it looked like a long cylindrical object that almost looked like a cruise missile type of thing – moving really fast right over the top of us.”

According to flight data, the Airbus 302 was flying at 406mph at the time. The plane, packed with passengers, was not far from the White Sands Missile range, but the Pentagon said it was not conduction any tests or launches at the time of the incident.

The FAA has released a statement saying that air traffic controllers “did not see any object in the area on their radarscopes.”

A spokesperson for American Airlines would only confirm that the intercepted and recorded radio call came from one of its flights but deferred any further questions to the FBI.

“Following a debrief with our Flight Crew and additional information received, we can confirm this radio transmission was from American Airlines Flight 2292 on Feb. 21,” the airline said.

However, the mystery only deepened when news outlets contacted the FBI as instructed by the airline, and the Bureau’s press liaison would only say that the agency was “aware of the reported incident” but would not “confirm or deny” if it was investigating.

UFO investigators such as the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) said that this was just the latest in a string of similar “near misses” involving passenger jets and “unidentified aerial phenomena.”
